10 and Under Fast Pitch Softball

Girls playing at the 10U age level (10Uonly) have the option to play both slowpitch and fastpitch (double rostering).  This means that a double rostered player will typically play 4 games per week, 2 fastpitch (typically Monday through Thursday) and 2 slowpitch (typically one game during the week and 1 game on Saturday).  There are guidelines in place to resolve any conlicts that occasionally occur when a player is scheduled to play both fastpitch and slowpitch games on the same day.  No double rostering is permitted at any other age level.

The 10U fastpitch program is introductory and developmental in nature.  Both coach pitch and player pitch is used.  This allows development of skills for all players in all aspects of the game (hitting, fielding, baserunning, pitching).  Other special rules are in place to promote skill development, fast moving games, and maximum play opportunity.  All other age groups use player pitchers only.

Overview of Program

IFPAA offers an opportunity for girls ages 8 through 18 to play fastpitch softball.  Teams are formed at the 10U, 12U, 15U, and 18U age levels.   The number of teams at each age level is a function of the number of players who sign up to play.  There is no limit on the number of teams that IFPAA will field in any age bracket.  If there is more than one team in an age group, the teams are drafted and balanced in skill level.  IFPAA also has cooperative agreements with the fastpitch softball leagues from McCandless and Brad-Mar-Pine, where rosters may be combined in the event a shortage of players sign up from any of the leagues.  This insures that any girl desiring to play fast pitch softball will have a team to play on, regardless of which league she originally registers for.

Fastpitch games are typically scheduled Monday through Thursday and only infrequently on weekends (usually make-up games).  IFPAA fastpitch teams participate in the Greater Pittsburgh Girls Softball League (GPGSL) and play 50% of their games at an IFPAA home field and 50% of their games away from IFPAA.  There is some local (greater North Hills area) travel required for the fastpitch teams.

The IFPAA fastpitch softball program is an opportunity for athletic and competitive girls to develop the skills needed to participate on their school fastpitch softball teams.

IFPAA also sponsors a fall fastpitch program at all age levels.  This is a cooperative program with the NA softball boosters sponsoring the 15U and 18U teams and IFPAA sponsoring the 10U and 12U teams.  All fall games are doubleheaders on Saturdays and Sundays and travel will be within the Greater Pittsburgh area.
