Plum Tournament

The IFPAA 10 & U White Team traveled to Plum July 4th weekend to kick off our tournament season, and finished 2nd in a 9 team double elimination tournament.

We started on Saturday morning with a 14-3 mercy rule win over Cranberry. We played Penn Township in our next game, and after falling behind 7-0, dropped a 9-6 decision that put us in the loser's bracket. We finished with a 6 pm game on Saturday with a 10-9 victory over Plum, hanging on to the lead in the bottom of the 7th. Nia Parillo pitched all 3 games, giving up only 6 walks in 20 innings of work.

We returned Sunday morning to play Cranberry again. IFPAA trailed 6-5 going in to the 7th inning. Carley Thieret delivered the game tying RBI with 2 outs, and we went on to score 2 more runs and hold Cranberry scoreless in the bottom of the 7th to secure an 8-6 win. IFPAA then faced DeHaven, with the winner going to the Championship Game. Halie Carter and Kelley Harrington delivered key hits to pace a 4-2 IFPAA win in a terrific defensive battle.

The championship game was a rematch with Penn Township. IFPAA jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the 1st. PT chipped away over the next 5 innings to take a 7-4 lead into the top of the 7th. IFPAA rallied, but fell just short and dropped a 7-6 decision to take the 2nd place trophy for the tournament.

The IFPAA girls played top notch defense throughout the tournament, and look forward to the next one!

McCandless Tournament

IFPAA began the tournament with an 11-0 defeat of DeHaven. Alexis Aiken was picked as IFPAA's game MVP recording 6 putouts at third base.

The next opponent was North Hills, and IFPAA earned another shutout victory with a 9-0 performance. Kelley Harrington was IFPAA's MVP hitting a home run, recording 4 putouts and 3 assists.

IFPAA then faced Hampton, with the winner going to the championship game. IFPAA put together 2 three run innings to take a 6-3 win. Nia Parillo was IFPAA's MVP. Nia pitched a terrific game, with 3 assists, 2 putouts, and 2 strikeouts.

The championship game was a rematch of IFPAA and Hampton. Hampton jumped to a 2-0 lead at their first at bat. IFPAA responded with a 4 run inning, then picked up 5 more in the 3rd, and added a run in the 5th for a 10-5 win. IFPAA's MVP was Halie Carter. Halie had a triple and a double, and caught 2 big fly ball outs in left center. Nia Parillo pitched every inning of the tournament, and played solid defense. Matti Huckestien went 9/10 at the plate, including a double and a triple.

This was the first tournament championship for each of the girls on this team.

IFPAA Tournament

The IFPAA White 10U Tournament team played the Championship Game of the IFPAA Tournament on Tuesday night after 2 postponements and defeated Middle Road 3-2 to win the IFPAA 10 U Softball Tournament.

IFPAA White began round robin play with a convincing 16-0 win over Brighton Heights. Becca Napoli was MVP recording all of the putouts made in the field but one. Nia Parillo turned an outstanding pitching performance allowing no walks over 5 innings. Halie Carter picked up 2 triples and a double.

IFPAA then played Bethel Park. Brittany Hogg got things started with a first inning 3 run homer. Bethel tied the game in the 2nd, and a close game was played until the top of the 7th. Leading 5-3, IFPAA broke the game open with a 5 run 7th, and closed out a 10-4 win. Carley Thieret was MVP with 2 key RBI at bats.

The last round robin game for IFPAA was against Middle Road. IFPAA led 4-3 going into the top of the 6th, but gave up 3 runs to trail 5-3. IFPAA picked up one run in the 6th, but could get no closer and dropped a 5-4 game. Halie Carter had the defensive play of the game making a running catch in left center. Meredith Gumash was MVP with 3 fly ball catches in right center.

IFPAA proceeded to the elimination round as the 2 seed in their bracket to face North Hills. IFPAA scored in every inning but one to take a 12-1 victory to earn a spot in the Championship Game. Matti Huckestein was MVP with 3 key RBI at bats, and two putouts at home plate while catching. IFPAA turned in a solid defensive effort against a good hitting team, including a 7-8-3-5 putout.

In a rematch of round robin play, IFPAA faced Middle Road in the Championship Game. In a tough defensive battle, IFPAA trailed by a run in the early innings, but tied the game in the bottom of the 4th at 2-2. The game remained that way until the bottom of the 7th. There were many terrific defensive plays, including a key double play for IFPAA by Alexis Aiken and Kalsey Kurtanich, and Middle Road made 6 big catches in the outfield plus 2 outfield assists. In the bottom of the 7th with runners on first and second and two outs, Becca Belko delivered the game winning RBI double with a shot to the gap in center field driving in Nia Parillo with the winning run. Becca Belko earned the MVP with her hit, and Brittany Hogg was named tournament MVP with solid play at 3rd base.

The IFPAA White team played a terrific tournament season, finishing 2nd at Plum, 1st at McCandless, and 1st at IFPAA. It was truly a team effort as every player contributed throughout the tournaments.
